Articles

Articles are very important in English. They give some information about a person, thing or place. They stand in front of a common, countable noun or an adjective.

When we talk about something in general, we use the indefinite article (a + consonant/ an + vowel), but when we talk about something specific or already mentioned, we use the definite article (the). 
Please, bring me a pencil. (= any pencil)

Please, bring me the yellow pencil that is on my desk. (= not just any pencil, but the one that is yellow and on my desk)

Članovi su veoma važni u engleskom jeziku. Stoje ispred zajedničkih, brojivih imenica ili prideva.
Kada govorimo uopšteno o nečemu, koristimo neodređeni član (a ispred imenica koje počinju suglasnikom / an ispred samoglasnika; = jedan, neki), ali kada govorimo o nečem određenom ili već pomenutom, upotrebljavamo određeni član (the = taj, onaj). 
Molim te, donesi mi olovku. (= bilo koju)

Molim te, donesi mi onu žutu olovku koja je na mojoj klupi. (= ne bilo koju nego onu koja je žuta i na mojoj klupi)

Write A/An or THE where necessary:
1 Give me _____ cup of tea, please.
2 This is _____ apple. _____ apple is yellow.
3 What's _____ weather like? - It's warm.
4 What _____ time is it? - It's _____ quarter past five.
5 There is _____ sandwich and _____ glass of _____ milk here.
