CAN

CAN is a modal verb. It hasn't got the 's' ending in the 3rd person singular. It is followed by an infinitive without 'to'.

It is used to express:

- skill (John can play the guitar.)

- ability (Can you lift this?)

- request (Can you do me a favour?)

- permission (Can I say something?)

- suggestion (You can get there by bus.)

- possibility (We can go by car or by bus.)

You make questions by inversion, and negatives by adding NOT to the verb (cannot = can't).

CAN (moći, smeti, umeti, znati) je modalni glagol. Nema nastavak "s" za III lice jednine. Sledi ga infinitiv (osnovni glagolski oblik). 

Izražava:

- veštinu (Džon ume da svira gitaru.)

- sposobnost (Možeš li da podigneš ovo?)

- molbu (Možeš li mi učiniti uslugu?)

- dozvolu (Smem li da kažem nešto?)

- predlog (Tamo možete da stignete autobusom.)

- mogućnost (Možemo da idemo kolima ili autobusom.)

U upitnim rečenicama dolazi do inverzije, a u odričnim do spajanja rečce NOT sa glagolom (cannot = can't).

swim, play the guitar, climb a tree, jump up high, dance, drive a car, knit, make cakes, whistle, sing, draw, cook.

E.g. My mum can make cakes, but she can't drive a car.
