Adverbs

Adverbs are very important. They say how (manner), when (time), where (place) or how often (frequency) something happens.

Adverbs describe verbs (He works hard) or modify adjectives (He is frequently busy).

They can be:
- simple (now, then, often),
- derived - adjective + -ly (quick - quickly, happy - happily, beautiful - beautifully),
- complex (this evening, at present, at last)

Some adverbs are irregular (hard, fast, well).

Adverbs are placed at the beginning or end of a sentence, or before a verb.

If there are more adverbs in a sentence, they follow this order: manner, place, time (more precise first).

Prilozi su veoma važna. Govore kako (način), kada (vreme), gde (mesto) ili koliko često (učestalost) se nešto dešava.

Prilozi opisuju glagole (On vredno radi) ili određuju prideve (On je često zauzet).

Mogu biti:
- prosti (sada, onda, često),
- izvedeni - pridev + -ly (brz - brzo, srećan - srećno, lepo),
- složeni (večeras, trenutno, najzad)

neki prilozi su nepravilni (vredno, brzo, dobro).

Prilozi stoje na početku ili na kraju rečenice, ili pre glagola.

Ako u rečenici ima više priloga, oni se javljaju ovim redom: način, mesto, vreme (prvo određenije).

Put the adverbs in the correct order:
1 They go to the cinema. (always, on Sundays)
2 The children play basketball. (on weekdays, usually, at the playground)
3 He answers all the questions. (at school, seldom)
4 Gwyn sleeps. (during breakfast, always, in the dining room)
5 She stays. (at her uncle's, when the weather's bad, often)
6 They go to the seaside. (in September, rarely)
7 They work. (on Sundays, in Wales, never)
8 Peter meets Sarah. (in front of the theatre, usually)
9 I drink tea. (at home, rarely, early in the morning)
10 They sit. (in the garden, all afternoon, sometimes, quietly)
